RETIREMENT OF WAYNE BELCHER (OAM)

It is with regret that the Commissioners of the Presbyterian Church in WA, and the Braemar Presbyterian Care Committee, advise the retirement of the Braemar Presbyterian Care (“Braemar”) Chief Executive Officer, Wayne L Belcher OAM.

Wayne experienced a heart attack at the end of May 2019. Whilst slowly recuperating, there remain some lingering concerns around the after-effects of that cardiac event. As a result, and at the advice of medical professionals, Wayne will conclude his service with Braemar to focus on his recovery.

Wayne commenced as CEO at Braemar on 7 March 2017. He had previously held the CEO role at The Bethanie Group and also worked as an Interim CEO at Baptistcare. Wayne has enjoyed an overall aged care career that has spanned almost forty years, and is recognised throughout the industry as one of Western Australia’s most influential aged care executives. In 2007 his service to the sector was recognised when he was awarded an Order of Australia Medallion (OAM).

In the current dynamic and financially constrained times for the aged care industry sector, Wayne had led a turnaround programme at Braemar, focusing on improving service and financial outcomes.

As a result of the changes implemented by Wayne, it is anticipated that the 2019-2020 financial year will see a significant improvement over past performance outcomes.

Braemar expects Wayne to continue to have a voice and involvement at some level in our Australian aged care sector, particularly via his personal blog found at www.wlbelcher.com

From his own thorough research, countless media interviews and personal diligence, Wayne has clearly shown the magnitude of support that vulnerable frail elderly people need from our broader Australian community, to ensure the delivery of high quality services that elderly people so richly deserve.

Wayne concludes his CEO role at Braemar on Friday 1 November 2019. We take this opportunity on behalf of the industry to say, “Thank you!” to Wayne for his dedicated service to Braemar and aged care, and wish him a full and speedy recovery, and a long and enjoyable retirement.

The Braemar Committee has commenced its CEO succession and recruitment process.
